Committees

Committees
Membership- Greets members and guests and distributes name badges at OSP meetings. Invites prospective members to monthly OSP meetings. Greets the individuals and answers any questions concerning the organization. Acts as host/ hostess in general, making everyone feel welcome. Submits all applications to Vice President of Membership. Dues will be sent to the Tresurer.

Nominating- Obtains recommendations for the officer candidates through an announcement in the newsletter and at the OSP meetings. Selects names to appear on the ballot and mails ballots prior to the october OSP meeting to the membership.

Program- Plans and schedules all regular OSP and/or special programs. Arranges for the speakers and meeting facilities. Makes appropraite reservations for the meal and meeting space. Introduces and hosts speakers. Also, plans any seminar or workshop. This includes programs and speakers, vendor participants, education, publicity, registration, mementos, badges, hospitality, and operations.

Audit- Audits financial records before January 15.

OSP Profile

Offices Systems Professionals of Central Iowa is the representative membership organization of professionals involved in an office environment. The objective of OSP is to inform and educate our members, to provide meaningful network opportunities, and to enhance the professional status of all members. Monthly programs allow our members to expand their knowledge about office systems and software, develop professionally and personally, network with colleagues to exchange information while having fun. Tours of local companies and places of interest are occasionally the center of our meetings allowing us to be educated and involved in our community.

OSP offers its members opportunities through:

-Monthly programs dealing with technology, internal services, and professional the personal development.

-Monthly newsletter featuring OSP activities and informative articles.

-Annual handbook with member, company, equipment, and services information.

-Networking and contacts with the others in the field of administrative services and the office systems.

History of the OSP

Office Systems Professionals of Central Iowa emerged in May 1990 from the reorganization of the Des Moines Chapter of the Association of Information Systems Professionals (ASIP). The national AISP organization dissolved in February 1990 making it necessary to redefine the local group.

AISP was formerly known as the International Information/Word Processing Association (IWP). IWP was founded in 1972 as the international Word Processing Association to develop and disseminate word processing ideas, methods, and techniques and advance the status of professionals in a new field. Recognizing its members’ increased responsibilities and shifting interests, the organization expanded its name to Information/Word Processing Association on June 1981. This name reflected the broadening scope of information management careers, as well as the rapidly developing technology.

Charlie Weisgerber, a Des Moines are word processing vendor, aware of the organizing of the Association, was instrumental in calling a group of local business personal together who shared a common interest in word processing. The initial meeting was held December 4, 1974, and from there a chapter was formed.

By November 1982, it was apparent the office automation industry and the IWP’s membership had undergone more dramatic changes. Therefore, the Executive Board unanimously adopted a sweeping strategic five-year plan, and a name change to Association of Information Systems Professionals (effective June 1, 1983) to more closely identify the professional expertise and aspirations of the membership as a whole.

The name, Office Systems Professionals of Central Iowa, reflects the broadening scope of the industry and the extension of the local Des Moines area to the Central Iowa region.
